Privacy Policy
Last updated October 20, 2026
Reserva is a journal for cigar enthusiasts. This policy explains what the Reserva app (“Reserva”, “we”, “us”) collects, why, who else sees it, and the choices you have. Reserva is operated by Anthony Mawe.
The short version
- Your journal is yours. Each entry is Private or Friends, and new entries start Private unless you change that in Settings.
- No ads, no tracking, no selling. We do not sell your information, and the app contains no advertising or analytics tools.
- Your location stays on your phone, with one exception: a rounded version is sent to a weather service when you log a cigar (details below).
- You can delete everything. Settings → Delete my account removes your account and its data from our servers.
- Reserva is for adults 18 and over.
1. Information we collect
What you give us
- Account. You sign in with Apple or Google. Apple gives us a user identifier and the name and email you choose to share (Apple can hide your real address behind a private relay one). Google gives us a user identifier, your name, email address and profile picture link; we only ask Google for basic sign-in details, never your contacts, files or other Google data. We also keep your username and display name.
- Journal entries. For each cigar you log: brand, name, size, wrapper, origin, rating, strength, draw, burn, flavors, tasting notes, date and time, the place you enter, the people you smoked with (names you type or pick), a weather summary, photos, and who can see the entry.
- Humidor inventory. The boxes and cigars you track, counts, and rest times.
- Preferences and plan. How often you smoke (if you set it), your sharing choices, and whether you have an active Reserve plan.
- Friends you add. Names you type in or pick with the iPhone contact picker. The picker only gives us the contacts you select, not your address book. Your friends list is kept on your phone.
- Event RSVPs. Events you say you are going to.
- Lounge partnership inquiries. If you contact us through the form for lounges on our website, the lounge name, your name, business email, city and message. We use them only to reply to you and to work with your lounge, and you can ask us to delete them at any time.
- Launch list. If you join the launch list on our website, your email address. We use it only to tell you when Reserva is available, and you can ask us to remove it at any time.
- What you send us, such as a support email.
From your phone, with your permission
- Location (while you use the app). Used to sort lounges by distance from you and, when you log a cigar, to add the weather and suggest nearby places. We do not save your location on our servers. To get the weather, your coordinates, rounded to about 100 meters, are sent to Open-Meteo. To suggest nearby places, a search area around you is sent to Apple Maps.
- Camera and photos. Photos you take or choose for a cigar’s card. Before a photo is saved or uploaded, we remove its hidden location and capture-time data. Your phone uses the capture date only to suggest when you smoked the cigar.
- Cigar scanning (only if you use it). When you scan a cigar’s band, the photo is sent through our server to Anthropic, whose Claude AI reads the band and suggests the brand and cigar. Only the photo is sent: not your name, account, journal or location. We ask your permission before your first scan. We don’t keep the scan photo, and Anthropic doesn’t use it to train its models. You check the result before anything is saved.
- Microphone and Speech Recognition. Only if you use dictation for tasting notes. Your speech is turned into text using Apple’s speech recognition, which Apple handles under its own privacy policy. We do not record or keep your audio. We only receive the text.
- Notifications. Reminders (like a rest-complete alert) are scheduled on your phone. They are not sent from our servers.
Collected automatically
- Server logs. When the app talks to our servers, our hosting provider records routine technical information such as your IP address and the time of the request. We use it to run and protect the service, not for advertising.
- Limits that prevent abuse. We count how many cigar scans you use each day. When you look up a username or send a friend request, we briefly record who and when, and clear those records after about a day.
- Diagnostics. If you allow iOS to share diagnostics with app developers, Apple may send us anonymous crash reports.
What we do not collect
We do not collect your contact list, a history of where you have been, recordings of your voice, an advertising identifier, or your payment card details.
2. How we use information
- To run Reserva: sign you in, keep your journal and humidor, and show lounges and events near you.
- To share what you choose to share, with the people you choose.
- To confirm your Reserve plan and make purchases work.
- To send the emails needed to sign in. We do not send marketing email.
- To keep the service safe: preventing abuse, reviewing reports, enforcing our Terms.
- To answer your questions and to meet legal obligations.
3. Who else sees your information
Other Reserva users, only as you choose
- Private: only you.
- Friends: the friends you have connected with in the app.
Sharing controls in Settings let you leave out parts of an entry, such as your note, photo or exact place. Your username can be seen by other users, and people can look you up by typing your exact username. Your friends can see which events you are going to. Everyone else sees only how many people are going.
Companies that help us run Reserva
- Supabase hosts our database, sign-in and file storage.
- Apple handles App Store purchases, Sign in with Apple, Apple Maps and speech recognition, and stores your data in iCloud if you turn on iCloud sync.
- Google handles Sign in with Google, if you choose it, under Google’s own privacy policy. Deleting your Reserva account also removes Reserva from your Google account’s connected apps.
- Open-Meteo provides the weather.
- Anthropic reads the photo of a cigar band when you use cigar scanning.
These providers may use the information only to provide their services to us or to you, under their own terms.
The law and safety
We may disclose information if we believe it is required by law or needed to protect people’s safety, or to enforce our Terms. If Reserva is ever sold or merged with another company, your information may move with it, and we will tell you first.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.
4. Where it is kept, and how we protect it
Your journal lives on your phone. If you sign in, a copy is stored on our providers’ servers, which may be in the United States or other countries where they operate. Data travels over encrypted connections, and our database is set up so people can read only what your visibility settings allow. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong email password and keep your phone locked.
5. Keeping and deleting information
- We keep your information while your account is open.
- Delete my account (Settings) removes your account, journal entries, photos and profile from our servers. It also removes your journal, humidor and friends from the phone you delete it on. A few things that never leave your phone (your wishlist, saved lounges, humidity readings and names you tag without an account) stay until you delete the app.
- When you delete a single entry, it is hidden from everyone right away. The record and any attached photo stay on our servers, marked as deleted, until you delete your account. Email us if you want a specific entry erased sooner.
- Copies in routine backups disappear on the backups’ normal schedule. We may keep limited records where the law requires or to deal with abuse: a report you file or that is filed about you stays after either account is deleted, no longer linked to the account, with the username it was about.
6. Your choices and rights
- In the app: choose who can see each entry, set your default, adjust sharing controls, sign out, or delete your account.
- On your phone: turn Location, Camera, Microphone, Speech Recognition and Notifications on or off for Reserva in iOS Settings.
- By email: ask us for a copy of your information, to correct it, or to delete it.
Depending on where you live in the United States (for example California, Texas, Virginia or Colorado), you may have the legal right to know what we hold about you, get a copy, correct it, delete it, and opt out of the sale of your data or of targeted advertising. We do neither of those last two things. We will not treat you differently for using these rights. Email us to use any of them. We reply within the time the law allows, generally 45 days. If we turn down a request you can appeal by replying to us, and you may also contact your state attorney general.
Reserva is intended for people in the United States.
7. Age
Reserva is for people who are 18 or older. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe someone under 18 has an account, email us and we will remove it.
8. Links and other services
Directions open in Apple Maps, and some features may open other apps or websites. Their privacy policies apply once you leave Reserva.
9. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date above. For changes that matter, we will tell you in the app or by email before they take effect.
